"He was a great manager, " the boy said. "My father thinks he was the greatest."

"Because he came here the most times, " the old man said. "If Durocher had continued to come here each year your father would think him the greatest manager."

"Who is the greatest manger, really,  Luque or Mike Gonzalez?"

"I think they are equal."

 

"And the best fisherman is you."

"No. I know others better."

"Qué va, " the boy said. "There are many good fishermen and some great ones. But there is only you"

"Thank you. You make me happy. I hope no fish will come along so great that he will prove us wrong."

"There is no such fish if you are still strong as you say."

"I may not be as strong as I think, " the old man said. "But I know many tricks and I have resolution."

"아니단다. 더 좋은 이들을 알아."

"Qué va." 소년이 말했다. "쓸만한 어부들은 많이 있고 조금 뛰어난 이들도 있지만 할아버지가 최고예요."

"고맙구나. 네가 나를 행복하게 만들어주는구나. 큰 고기가 나타나서 우리가 틀렸다는 게 밝혀지지 않으면 좋겠구나."

"할아버지가 말씀하신 것처럼 힘이 쎄시다면 그러한 물고기는 없을 거예요."

"내 생각처럼 힘이 세지는 않을 수도 있을 것 같구나." 노인이 말했다. "하지만 많은 요령과 resolution을 알고 있지."
