<원서>

"Wake up old man," the boy said and put his hand on one of the old man's knees.

 

The old man opened his eyes and for a moment he was coming back from a long way away. Then he smiled.

 

"What have you got?" he asked.

"Supper," said the boy. "We're going to have supper."

"I'm not very hungry."

"Come on and eat. You can't fish and not eat."

"I have," the old man said getting up and taking the newspaper and folding it. Then he started to fold the blanket.

"Keep the blanket around you," the boy said.

"You'll not fish without eating while I'm alive."

"Then live a long time and take care of yourself," the old man said.

"할아버지 일어나세요." 소년이 그의 손을 노인의 한쪽 무릎에 올리며 말했다.

 

노인은 눈을 뜨고 잠시동안 정신을 차렸다. 그러곤 그가 살며시 웃었다.

 

"무엇을 가지고 온거니?" 노인이 물었다.

"Supper 먹을거리요." 소년이 말했다. "같이 먹어요."

"그렇게 배가 고프지 않은걸."

"어서요. 같이 먹어요. 드시지 않으면 고기를 잡으러 갈 수 없을 거에요."

"안먹고도 잡던걸." 노인이 일어나며 말했다. 신문을 접으며. 그러고선 담요를 접기 시작했다.

"담요는 계속 두르고 계시는게 어떠세요." 소년이 말했다.

"제가 살아있는 한 드시지않는다면 고기잡으러 가시지 못할거에요."

"오래오래 건강하게 사렴." 노인이 말했다.
